The Journal Sweet Remedy Honey
The Tradition

What is an electuary?

An electuary is finely powdered medicinal herbs suspended in raw, unfiltered honey. It is one of the oldest known forms of medicine making, used for thousands of years across many traditions.

An ancient practice

Electuaries were among the preferred methods for medicine making in ancient Greece, Rome, and Egypt. They are still central to Ayurvedic medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine today.

Why honey?

Raw honey is naturally antimicrobial, anti-viral and anti-fungal, gentle on the body, and a remarkable carrier for plant compounds. It preserves the herbs and helps the body welcome them. The flavor is also lovely, which makes daily use a pleasure rather than a chore.

How we make ours

We start with top grade raw, unfiltered honey and mill our organic herbs to a fine powder. The two are folded together slowly so the honey stays alive and the herbs distribute evenly. Small batches. Honest ingredients. No shortcuts.

Easy ways to enjoy

  • A spoonful on its own, morning or evening
  • Stirred into warm water, tea, or milk
  • Spread on toast, biscuits, or a peanut butter sandwich
  • Drizzled over yogurt, oatmeal, or ice cream
